Ah, many a heavy-laden cloud strains beneath her load,
O Lord, heavy are the clouds barely able to carry their load
Watering the lands with a copious downpour.
Watering the lands with pouring rain
مرتshe passed فويقjust above الأرضthe earth تسحبshe trails ذيلهاher hem
والريحand the wind تحملهاcarries her علىupon الأعناقthe necks
She passed just above the earth, trailing her hem,
Passing above the earth, dragging their tails
While the wind bore her upon its necks.
And the wind carries them on its shoulders

كنهوضlike the rising of مشتاقa yearning lover إلىtoward مشتاقa yearning lover
And she drew near, and the dust rose toward her,
They approached and the soil rose up toward them
Like one yearning lover rising toward another.
As a longing lover rises toward the longed

It was as though she had come to kiss his ground,
It was as if the clouds came to kiss the earth
Or sought from him a gentle embrace.
Or tried to tenderly embrace it
