The wing of your eloquent starling
The eloquent twitter of your wing
flutters toward you with every wind.
Calls to you with every breeze

He came, seeking the light of a generous man;
It came eagerly to a generous one
the rapture of praise stirs him.
Shaken by the ecstasy of praise
وقَلّماand rarely يكذبُdisappoints ارتِيادٌa quest
دَعاbeckoned إلىtoward وجهِكَyour face الصَّبيحِradiant
And rarely does a quest disappoint
And seldom does frequenting prove false
that has beckoned toward your radiant face.
The morning called to your face

And can a seeker of bounty alight
Can the downpour of dew fall
anywhere but upon your unalloyed largesse?
Except on your flowing Nile
فضلُكَyour superiority فيamong الفاضلينَmen of merit طُرّاًall
فضلُsuperiority المُعَلّىthe highest-winning arrow علىover المَنيحِthe shareless arrow
Your superiority among all men of merit
Your superiority among the virtuous is so evident
is that of the winning Muʿallā arrow over the shareless Manīḥ.
Like the superiority of the sublime over the vile

Whoever compared any of them to you
compares a sick man to a healthy one.
Compared the frail to the hale

O means of healing, my ailment
O cure of innocence, my sickness
is surely laid before a giver of relief in you.
Can only be complained of to the Healer

And how often I have burned because of people
How I have suffered from people
to whom I voice a wounded man's complaint.
Complaining to them the moans of the wounded

So stay well, and may the nights ever remain
So be safe, may the nights never cease
short of your life's vast span.
Below the span of your ample life

And say 'yes,' since I have appeared as a good omen;
And say yes when an opportunity arises kindly
you will join a generous giver to an auspicious visitor.
Adding a fragrant breath to the belabored sigh
