ودَّhe wished وَقَدand already جادَhe gave generously لَوif only أَجاداhe had done good
ودَّ وَقَد جادَ لَو أَجادا
وَفَضَّand he scattered شَملَgathered whole الغِنىwealth وجاداand gave freely
وَفَضَّ شَملَ الغِنى وجادا
He wished, having given generously, that he had done good.
And he scattered his gathered riches and gave freely.
ثُمَّthen تمنَّىhe wished إِذwhen فادَhe died جَهلاًin ignorance
ثُمَّ تمنَّى إِذ فادَ جَهلاً
بأَنthat يُفادىhe be ransomed بماwith what أَفاداhe had acquired
بأَن يُفادى بما أَفادا
Then, as he lay dying, he wished in ignorance
to be ransomed with what he had acquired.
طُوبىblessedness لِمَنfor whoever فيin الجَميلgoodness زاداincreased
طُوبى لِمَن في الجَميل زادا
واتَّخَذَand he took الظَّيِّباتِgood things زاداprovision
واتَّخَذَ الظَّيِّباتِ زادا
Blessed is he who increases in goodness
and takes good things as his provision.
