وافىhe arrived قدalready عظمتgrew grave عليَّagainst me ذنوبهhis sins
وافى قد عظمت عليَّ ذنوبه
فيin غيبةٍan absence قبحتgrew ugly بهاthrough it آثارُهُhis deeds
في غيبةٍ قبحت بها آثارُهُ
He came, his sins against me having grown grave,
During an absence in which his deeds had grown ugly.
فمحاthen erased إساءتهhis ill-treatment بناof us إحسانهُhis kindness
فمحا إساءته بنا إحسانهُ
واستغفرتand sought forgiveness لذنوبهfor his sins أوتارهhis strings
واستغفرت لذنوبه أوتاره
Then his kindness erased his ill-treatment of us,
And his strings sought forgiveness for his sins.
