وكيفَAnd how أُؤدِّيI render شَكرَthanks منone who إنif شكرتُهُI thank him
وكيفَ أُؤدِّي شَكرَ من إن شكرتُهُ
علىfor بِرِّkindness يَومٍa day زادَنيhe gives me more مِثلَهُthe like of it غَداtomorrow
على بِرِّ يَومٍ زادَني مِثلَهُ غَدا
And how can I render thanks to one who, if I thank him
How can I give thanks, when if I gave thanks
for a day's kindness, grants me as much again tomorrow?
For kindness on one day, he added more the next?
فإنFor if رُمتI seek أقضيto repay اليَومَthe day الَّذيthat مَضىhas passed
فإن رُمت أقضي اليَومَ الَّذي مَضى
رَأَيتُI find لهُhis فَضلاًfavor عَلَيَّtoward me مُجدداrenewed
رَأَيتُ لهُ فَضلاً عَلَيَّ مُجددا
For if I seek to repay the kindness of the day gone by,
For if I wished to repay the day that passed,
I find his favor toward me renewed.
I would see new bounty from him ever renewed
