وكَلفني خوفُ ابنِ عبدونَ رَدَّها
فأَرجأتُهاso I postponed it حَولاًa year كَريتاًfull ومَربَعاand a spring season
فأَرجأتُها حَولاً كَريتاً ومَربَعا
And fear of Ibn Abdun compelled me to return it.
The fear of Ibn Abdoon's son has charged me
So I postponed it for a full year and a spring season.
To delay her for a year, or square, or pair.
وقدand indeed كانَhad been فيin نفسيmy mind ورَأييand my judgment اطِّراحُهاcasting it aside
وقد كانَ في نفسي ورَأيي اطِّراحُها
فلمso not أَرَI saw إِلّاexcept أَنthat أُطيعَI obey وأَسمَعَاand I listen
فلم أَرَ إِلّا أَن أُطيعَ وأَسمَعَا
Yet I had intended, and thought it best, to cast it aside;
And though my heart and mind incline to cast her off,
I saw no choice but to obey and listen.
I see no course but to obey and heed the pair.
