You have created a wondrous sight for the people.

جمعتَ بين الضِّدينِ مقتدراً

فمن رأى الماء خالط اللهبَّا

فمن رأى الماء خالط اللهبَّا

You have brought two opposites together with mastery.

You combined opposites with power

For who has seen water mingle with flame?

So who saw water mixing with flames?

كأنما النيلُ والشموعُ بهِ

كأنما النيلُ والشموعُ بهِ

أفقُ سماءٍ تألَّقَت شُهبُا

أفقُ سماءٍ تألَّقَت شُهبُا

As though the Nile and the candles upon it

As if the Nile and candles in it

were a sky's horizon, sparkling with shooting stars.

Were a horizon with shooting stars shining

قد كان في فِضَّةٍ فَصَيَّره

قد كان في فِضَّةٍ فَصَيَّره

توقُّدُ النارِ فوقَهُ ذَهَبا

توقُّدُ النارِ فوقَهُ ذَهَبا

It had been silver, then was turned

It was in silver but you made it

to gold by the blaze of fire above it.

Blaze with the fire's glow like gold
