شَرِبنا مَع غروب الشمس شمسآ

مُشَعشَعةً إلى وقتِ الطُّلوعِ

مُشَعشَعةً إلى وقتِ الطُّلوعِ

We drank, at sunset, a sun,

mixed with water, until the hour of sunrise.

وضوءُ الشمسِ فوقَ النيل بادٍ

وضوءُ الشمسِ فوقَ النيل بادٍ

كأطراف الأسِنَّةِ في الدروعِ

كأطراف الأسِنَّةِ في الدروعِ

And the sun's light was visible above the Nile,

like the tips of spearheads in coats of mail.
