Death is written in the pages of lovers.

And separation, before that, is vexation and reproach.

If my night grows long, the face of dawn takes its rise

From the face of him who is hidden from my eyes.

Who will tell him that, because of his absence,

A train of tears trails across my cheeks?

As though my eyelids, from remembering him,

    Were a wind-tossed, rain-drenched tamarisk branch.
