وَيحيwoe is me قَتيلاًslain ماnot لَهُfor him مِنْany عَقلِblood-price
وَيحي قَتيلاً ما لَهُ مِنْ عَقلِ
مِنby شادنٍa young gazelle يهتزُّsways مثلَlike النَّصلِthe blade
مِن شادنٍ يهتزُّ مثلَ النَّصلِ
Woe is me—slain, with no reason left,
Woe is me—a slain man with no blood-price,
by a gazelle-youth who sways like a blade,
Slain by a young gazelle who sways like a blade,
مُكحَّلٍkohl-eyed ماnot مسَّهُhas touched him منany كُحلِkohl
مُكحَّلٍ ما مسَّهُ من كُحلِ
لاdo not تَعذُلانيyou two reproach me إِنَّنيindeed I فيin شُغلِpreoccupation
لا تَعذُلاني إِنَّني في شُغلِ
kohl-eyed, though no kohl has touched him.
