لمّا عدِمتُ مُؤَانِساً وَجَليسا

لمّا عدِمتُ مُؤَانِساً وَجَليسا

نَادَمتُ بُقراطاً وجالينوسا

نَادَمتُ بُقراطاً وجالينوسا

When I lacked a comforting companion and someone to sit with me,

I took Hippocrates and Galen as boon companions.

وَجَعَلتُ كُتبَهُما شِفَاءَ تَفَرُّدي

وَجَعَلتُ كُتبَهُما شِفَاءَ تَفَرُّدي

وَهُما الشِّفاءُ لِكُلِّ جُرحٍ يُوسى

وَهُما الشِّفاءُ لِكُلِّ جُرحٍ يُوسى

And I made their books a remedy for my solitude,

And they are the cure for every wound that is tended.

ووجَدتُ عِلمهُما إِذا حَصَّلتَهُ

ووجَدتُ عِلمهُما إِذا حَصَّلتَهُ

يُذكي وَيُحيي لِلجُسومِ نُفوسا

يُذكي وَيُحيي لِلجُسومِ نُفوسا

And I found that their knowledge, once you have acquired it,

Kindles and revives souls within bodies.
