تُعلِّلُنا أُمامةُ بالأَماني

تُعلِّلُنا أُمامةُ بالأَماني

ولجَّ بنا البِعادُ منَ التَّداني

ولجَّ بنا البِعادُ منَ التَّداني

Umamah beguiles us with hopes,

Ummamah blames us for dreaming,

And separation stubbornly keeps us from drawing near.

And distance has kept us from getting close.

إذا ما قلتُ أينَ الوَصلُ قالتْ

إذا ما قلتُ أينَ الوَصلُ قالتْ

طَلبتَ العِزَّ في دارِ الهَوانِ

طَلبتَ العِزَّ في دارِ الهَوانِ

Whenever I say, 'Where is union?' she replies,

When I ask, where is our connection? She says:

'You sought honor in the abode of humiliation.'

You sought glory in the land of disgrace.
