هتَكَ الحِجابَ عَنِ الضمائرْ

هتَكَ الحِجابَ عَنِ الضمائرْ

طَرْفٌ به تُبْلى السرائرْ

طَرْفٌ به تُبْلى السرائرْ

The veil over innermost thoughts has been torn away

You unveiled the veils from hearts,

by an eye through which secrets are tested.

With a glance that wears down secrets.

يَرْنُو فَيَمْتَحنُ القُلو

يَرْنُو فَيَمْتَحنُ القُلو

ب كَأَنَّهُ في القَلبِ نَاظِرْ

ب كَأَنَّهُ في القَلبِ نَاظِرْ

It gazes, putting hearts to the test,

Your eyes wander and test hearts,

as though it looks within the heart.

As if you're gazing inside the heart.

يا ساحِراً مَا كُنْتُ أَعْ

يا ساحِراً مَا كُنْتُ أَعْ

رِفُ قَبْلهُ في الناسِ ساحِرْ

رِفُ قَبْلهُ في الناسِ ساحِرْ

O sorcerer, I had never known

O bewitcher, before you I never

a sorcerer among people before him.

Knew of a bewitcher among people.

أَقْصَيْتَني مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا

أَقْصَيْتَني مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا

أَدْنَيْتني فالقلْبُ طائِرْ

أَدْنَيْتني فالقلْبُ طائِرْ

You cast me away after

You drew me close then distanced me,

you had drawn me close; so the heart takes flight.

So now my heart is left fluttering.

وَغَرَرْتَنِي وَزَعَمْتَ أنْ

وَغَرَرْتَنِي وَزَعَمْتَ أنْ

نَكَ لابنٌ في الصَّيْفِ تامِرْ

نَكَ لابنٌ في الصَّيْفِ تامِرْ

And you deceived me and claimed that

You deceived me and claimed to be

you had milk and dates in summer.

A ripe date in summer, fresh and tender.
