وأَعيُنٌ مَكْحُولَةٌ بالهُجود
Tears have cut furrows in the cheeks,
Tears have etched valleys in their cheeks,
And eyes are lined with the kohl of night vigils.
Eyes swollen with abundant weeping.

فبادَروا خَشْيَة ذاكَ الوعِيد
And a people whom their Lord has threatened—
A people promised by their Lord,
So they hastened in fear of that threat.
So they hastened, fearing His threat.

يَبْكونَ مِنْ خَوْفِ عِقابِ المَجيد
So they are absorbed in worship in their prayer chambers,
Bowing devotedly in their shrines,
Weeping for fear of the Glorious One’s punishment.
Crying in awe of the Mighty's wrath,

From their tears, grass has almost sprouted
Their tears have nearly caused to grow
On the ground their eyes faced in prostration.
Grass where their eyes have touched prostrate.
