مظلومةٌwronged باللَّحظِby the gaze وَجْنتُهاher cheek
مظلومةٌ باللَّحظِ وَجْنتُها
وجفونُهاand her eyelids جُبلتْwere fashioned by nature علىfor الظُّلْمِinjustice
وجفونُها جُبلتْ على الظُّلْمِ
Her cheek is wronged by the gaze,
Oppressed in her glance, her garden
And her eyelids were fashioned for injustice;
And her eyelids formed against injustice
وكأنَّand it is as though عينَيْهاher two eyes تَضمَّنتاboth contained
وكأنَّ عينَيْها تَضمَّنتا
ماwhat فيin فؤادكَyour heart منof جوَىburning anguish السُّقْمِsickness
ما في فؤادكَ من جوَى السُّقْمِ
And it is as though her eyes held
As if her eyes encompassed
The burning anguish of sickness in your heart.
What is in your heart of the affliction's heat
