O doll erected for an ascetic

rather, a gazelle standing upon a height,

Rather, a gazelle who kept her promise

بَل دُرَّةً زهراءَ ما سَكَنَتْ

بَل دُرَّةً زهراءَ ما سَكَنَتْ

بحراً ولا اكْتَنفتْ ذَرى صَدفِ

بحراً ولا اكْتَنفتْ ذَرى صَدفِ

rather, a radiant pearl that has never dwelt

Rather, a radiant pearl who never settled

in a sea, nor been enfolded in the shelter of shells.

In a sea, nor dwelt in a shell's hollow

أَسْرَفْتِ في قَتْلي بِلا تِرَةٍ

أَسْرَفْتِ في قَتْلي بِلا تِرَةٍ

وسَمِعْتِ قَولَ اللَّهِ في السَّرَفِ

وسَمِعْتِ قَولَ اللَّهِ في السَّرَفِ

You have gone too far in killing me, with no wrong to avenge,

You were excessive in killing me, remorselessly

and you have heard God's word concerning excess.

And you heard God's words about excess

إنِّي أتوبُ إليكَ مُعْترِفاً

إنِّي أتوبُ إليكَ مُعْترِفاً

إِنْ كُنْتَ تَقْبَلُ تَوْبَ مُعْتَرفِ

إِنْ كُنْتَ تَقْبَلُ تَوْبَ مُعْتَرفِ

I repent to you, confessing,
