ياO غُضُناًa bough مائِساًswaying gracefully بَينَamid الرِّياطْthe robes

ما لي بَعدَكَ بالعَيْشِ اغْتِباطْ
O bough swaying amid the robes!
O withered branch amid the meadows green,
Without you, I find no delight in life.
Without you I take no joy in life serene.
ياO مَنْyou who إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle بَداhe appeared ليto me مَاشِياًwalking

وَدِدْتُ أَنَّ لَهُ خَدِّي بِساطْ
O you—whenever you appeared before me walking,
When you appear before me on your way,
I wished my cheek were a carpet for you.
I long to spread my cheek for you to tread.

His eyes leave whoever beholds him
Your eyes leave stunned whoever dares to look;
With their mind in utter confusion.
Bewildered wits, all reason they forsook.

I said, “When shall we meet, O my master?”
I asked, “When will we meet, my master dear?”
He said, “Tomorrow we shall meet at the Sirat bridge.”
“Tomorrow we shall meet beside the Bridge,” you said.
