Nay, by the stolen glance from

the lover's eye toward the beloved,

he complains to him with his gaze—

a plaint more tender than love poetry.

No life has been sweet that has not tasted

the flavor of union, nor will it be sweet.

And many a beloved have I kept concealed,

    despite the watcher's vigilance.

    The north wind stirs him,

and the south wind stirs me.
