بنفسيwith my life as ransom مَنthe one whose مَراشِفُهُhis lips مُدامُwine
بنفسي مَن مَراشِفُهُ مُدامُ
ومَنand the one whose لحظاتُglances مُقْلتهِhis eye سهامُarrows
ومَن لحظاتُ مُقْلتهِ سهامُ
I would give my life for him whose lips are wine,
With myself, whose pillow is wine
And for him whose eye’s glances are arrows,
And whose glances are arrows
ومَنand the one who هوَhe إنْif بداappears والبدْرُwhile the full moon تِمٌّfull
ومَن هوَ إنْ بدا والبدْرُ تِمٌّ

خَفِي مِنْ حُسنِهِ البدرُ التَّمامُ
And for him who, if he appears while the moon is full,
And if the full moon appears
Makes the full moon fade before his beauty.
The full moon is hidden by his beauty

فلا لفظٌ إليَّ ولا ابتسامُ
I say to him, when he has shown coldness,
I say to him as he shows aloofness
With neither a word to me nor a smile:
No word comes to me nor a smile

Speak—speech does not hurt you,
Speak, speech will not hurt you
Nor does a greeting erase your charms.
Nor will greetings erase your beauty
