بِذمامِby the covenant of الهَوىlove أَمُتُّI claim a bond إليهِwith him
وبحُكمand by the law of العُقارِwine أَقضيI pass judgment عليهِon him
By love's covenant I claim a bond with him.
With passion's rein I'm drawn to him,
And by wine's law I pass judgment on him.
And by his cheeks I'm bound.
بأبيmy father as ransom منَthe one who زَهاvaunted himself عليَّover me بوجْهٍwith a face
كادَalmost يَدْمىbled لمَّاwhen نظرتُI looked إِليهِat it
My father be his ransom—he who flaunted before me a face
By my father - from his beauty my heart was pierced
That almost bled when I looked at it.
When my eyes fell upon him.
كلَّماwhenever علَّنيgave me another draught منَof الرَّاحِwine صِرْفاًunmixed
علَّنيgave me another draught بالرُّضابِwith saliva مِنfrom شَفَتيهِhis two lips
Whenever he gave me another draught of unmixed wine,
Whenever the gentle breeze tosses my hair,
He gave me another draught of saliva from his lips.
His sweet lips console me.
ناولَhanded over الكأسَthe cup واسْتمالَand enticed بلحظٍwith a glance
فَسقَتْنيso they gave me drink عَيناهُhis two eyes قَبلَbefore يَديهِhis two hands
He handed over the cup and won me over with a glance,
He passes the cup, enticing with a glance -
So his eyes gave me drink before his hands did.
His eyes intoxicate me before his hands can reach.
