A captive of sins stands at Your door,

In dread of what You know.

He fears sins whose shame has not been hidden from You,

And hopes in You concerning them, both hopeful and afraid.

And who would hope in and fear anyone but You?

And none opposes You in the bounty of Your decree.

So, my Master, do not disgrace me in my record,

When the records are laid open on the Day of Reckoning.

And be my solace in the darkness of the grave, when

My loved ones turn away, and companions grow distant.

If Your vast pardon proves too narrow for me—that which

I hope for on account of my excesses—then I am surely lost.
