So the final fate of everything we are part of

Is to pass from dense gathering to dispersal.

And whatever we amassed, lawful or forbidden,

Is distributed among the sons and daughters,

And among those we had not deemed worthy of a copper coin

Or the value of a grain before death.

And our loved ones forget us after ten,

When we have already become decaying bones,

As though we had never kept their company with affection,

And there had been no congenial friend among them.
