إِذاif اِستَنصَرَsought aid from المَرءُthe man اِمرَءاًa man لاno يَديtwo hands (strength) لَهُfor him
فَناصِرُهُthen his helper وَالخاذِلونَand those withholding support سَواءُequal
If a man seeks aid from a man who has no strength,
When a man seeks help from one with no power to aid
Then his helper and those who abandon him are alike.
Then his supporter and the cowardly are the same
أَناI اِبنُson الَّذيthe one who قَدindeed تَعلَمونَyou know مَكانَهُhis standing
وَلَيسَand there is no عَلىover الحَقِّthe truth المُبينِmanifest طَخاءُcloud
I am the son of him whose standing you well know,
I am the son of the one whose standing you know
And no cloud veils the manifest truth.
And falsehood cannot sully the brilliant truth
أَلَيسَis not? رَسولُthe Messenger اللَهِGod جَدّيmy grandfather وَوالِديand my father
أَناI البَدرُthe full moon إِنif خَلاleaves النُجومthe stars خَفاءُobscurity
Is not God's Messenger my grandfather and my father?
Is not the Messenger of God my grandfather and father?
I am the full moon, if obscurity leaves the stars.
I am the full moon, though stars diminish and fade
يُنازِعُنيhe contends with me وَاللَهُand God بَينيbetween me وَبَينَهُand between him
يَزيدٌYazid وَلَيسَand is not الأَمرُthe matter حَيثُwhere يَشاءُhe wishes
He contends with me—with God between me and him—
Yazid disputes with me, but by God, it is not up to him
Yazid; yet the matter is not as he wishes.
I and him, this matter is not as he would have it swayed
فَياso, O نُصَحاءَsincere devotees اللَهِGod أَنتُمyou (plural) وُلاتُهُHis guardians

So, O sincere devotees of God, you are His guardians,
So supporters of God, you are his trustees
And you are trustees over His religions.
And caretakers of his religion, stalwart and staid

Have outsiders taken it from its rightful holders?
Have the transgressors taken this, tell me, I pray
