تَبكي على حجرٍ ولا تفترُ
My eye’s tears are a steady, dripping rain;
My tears are ever-flowing, dripping down,
It weeps for Hujr and does not relent.
Weeping on stone but not relenting,
لَوif كانَتhad been القوسthe bow علىupon أُسرةٍa clan
لَو كانَت القوس على أُسرةٍ
ماwould not حملhave borne السيفَthe sword لهagainst him الأعورُthe one-eyed man
ما حمل السيفَ له الأعورُ
Had the bow been in a clan’s hands,
If only the bow belonged to a fair maiden,
The one-eyed man would not have borne the sword against him.
The one-eyed man would not have bore the sword.
