ألا هلْ ثائِرٌ بدماءِ قومِ

أصابهمُ عُمَيْرُ بن الحُبابِ

أصابهمُ عُمَيْرُ بن الحُبابِ

Ah, is there an avenger for the blood of a people

Is there no avenger with the blood of a people

whom ʿUmayr ibn al-Ḥubāb struck down?

Whom Umayr ibn Al-Hubab has afflicted?

وهلْ في عامرِ يوماً نَكيرٌ

وهلْ في عامرِ يوماً نَكيرٌ

وحَيَّيْ عبدِوُدِّ أو جَنابِ

وحَيَّيْ عبدِوُدِّ أو جَنابِ

And will there ever be retaliation among ʿĀmir

Is there no helper in Aamer on a fateful day,

and the two clans of ʿAbd Wudd or Janāb?

Or Hayya Abdood or Janab?

فإنْ لم تَثْأَروا من قد أَصابُوا

فإنْ لم تَثْأَروا من قد أَصابُوا

فَكونوا أعبُداً لِبنَي كَلابِ

فَكونوا أعبُداً لِبنَي كَلابِ

For if you do not avenge those they have struck down,

If you do not avenge those who assaulted you,

then be slaves to the sons of Kilāb.

Then be slaves to the sons of dogs.

أبعدَ بني الجُلاحِ ومن تركتُمْ

أبعدَ بني الجُلاحِ ومن تركتُمْ

بجانِب كوكبِ تحتَ التُّرابِ

بجانِب كوكبِ تحتَ التُّرابِ

After the sons of al-Julāḥ and those you left

After the tribe of Julah and those you left

beside Kawkab, beneath the earth,

Near the star beneath the dust,

تطيبُ لغائرٍ منْكم حياةٌ

تطيبُ لغائرٍ منْكم حياةٌ

ألا لا عَيْشَ للحيِّ المُصابِ

ألا لا عَيْشَ للحيِّ المُصابِ

can life be sweet for any of you who jealously guards his honor?

Does life seem sweet to the survivors among you?

Ah, there is no life for the stricken clan.

No! There is no life for the stricken alive.
