Indeed, the softly nasal-voiced gazelle's reproach delighted me.

And he recalls my lapses and makes signs in intimacy.

I seek from him a sip of his saliva.

And he lowers his languid eyelids and winks.

And what harm would it do him to grant me a tiny lick?

I would moisten my mouth with it—“concerning life, he fulfills” [wording unclear].

So I said, “Is keeping apart permissible in love?”

He said, “Yes—coy refusal is even more permissible.”

He said, “I fear the tale-bearers' actions and their words.”

So I said, “No tale-bearer for worldly gain will come forth.”

He said, “Tomorrow, no excuse: you will visit me.”

So I said, “By my life, I have never been unable.”

So I joined him, while cutting swords called out around me.

And brown spear-shafts were thrust into the hollow of thought's throat.
