هل هذه الشمس منها الطرف مفتونُ

هل هذه الشمس منها الطرف مفتونُ

أم مظهر الحسن يبدو فيه تحسينُ

أم مظهر الحسن يبدو فيه تحسينُ

Is this the sun, by which the gaze is enchanted?

Is this sun, from it the side is infatuated

Or a manifestation of beauty, in which adornment appears?

Or the appearance of beauty appears in it to improve

أم روض أنسٍ به الأغصان راقصة

أم روض أنسٍ به الأغصان راقصة

وللبلابل في أنحاه تلحينُ

وللبلابل في أنحاه تلحينُ

Or a garden of delight, its boughs dancing,

Or a garden of intimacy in which the branches are dancing

with nightingales singing throughout its reaches?

And for the nightingales in its corners a melody

أم تلك حورية بين الأنامِ وهل

أم تلك حورية بين الأنامِ وهل

في غير جناتِ عدنٍ تظهر العينُ

في غير جناتِ عدنٍ تظهر العينُ

Or is that a houri among humankind—and do

Or is it a houri between people, is it possible

the wide-eyed maidens appear outside the gardens of Eden?

That the eye appears in other than the gardens of Eden

في شهرِ ذي القعدةِ الميمون قد ظهرت

في شهرِ ذي القعدةِ الميمون قد ظهرت

فبان درٌ من الأصدافِ مكنونُ

فبان درٌ من الأصدافِ مكنونُ

In the auspicious month of Dhu al-Qa‘dah she appeared,

In the blessed month of Dhu al-Qi'dah it appeared

and a hidden pearl emerged from the shells.

So a pearl from shells hidden became apparent

بدت لنا كالثريا تزهدي عجباً

بدت لنا كالثريا تزهدي عجباً

وحسن طالعها بالسعدِ مقرونُ

وحسن طالعها بالسعدِ مقرونُ

She appeared to us like the Pleiades, glorying in pride [uncertain reading],

It appeared to us like a chandelier, amazingly beautiful

and the beauty of her rising is joined with good fortune.

And the beauty of its rising paired with good fortune

وأصبحت تنشد البشرى مؤرخةً

وأصبحت تنشد البشرى مؤرخةً

ميلاد فاطمةٍ بالرشد ميمونُ

ميلاد فاطمةٍ بالرشد ميمونُ

And she began singing glad tidings, recording the date:

And it began reciting good tidings, dating

Fatimah's birth is blessed with right guidance.
