في كل شيء شكْلهُ معجب

In everything, his form is enchanting;

In everything a shape of him delights me;

I find his countenance present within it.

I met him with a present face,

وهو وإن طال التنائي معي

فلم يَزل طرْفي له ناظرا

فلم يَزل طرْفي له ناظرا

And he is with me, though separation lasts long;

And though we have been long parted,

So my gaze has never ceased to look upon him.

My eyes are still beholding his.

من لم يُفَرِّحهُ اللقا أولاً

من لم يُفَرِّحهُ اللقا أولاً

فليس يؤسيه النوى آخرا

فليس يؤسيه النوى آخرا

Whoever was not gladdened by meeting at first

He to whom meeting gives not the first joy,

Will not be saddened by parting at last.

Is not saddened by absence last;

هل هذه الدنيا سواه وهل

هل هذه الدنيا سواه وهل

في الكونِ شيء غير هذا الربيب

في الكونِ شيء غير هذا الربيب

Is this world anything but him, and is there

Is there anything in the world but he?

Anything in the universe other than this fosterling?

In the whole universe is aught beside this beloved?
