يُهَينمُhe murmurs كالذيlike one who يتلوrecites رقاهُhis incantations
يُهَينمُ كالذي يتلو رقاهُ
ليحضرto summon جِنةjinn وقتat the time of الدجُنَّهthe darkness
ليحضر جِنة وقت الدجُنَّه
He murmurs like one reciting his incantations,
He is disgraced like one who reads his papers
to summon jinn at the hour of darkness.

وينظرand he looks للسماءat the sky بعينwith an eye of مقتٍloathing
وينظر للسماء بعين مقتٍ
كأنas though بهin him معاذ[I seek] refuge in اللهGod جِنَّهmadness
كأن به معاذ الله جِنَّه
And he looks at the sky with an eye of loathing,
And looks up to the sky resentfully
as though he were—God forbid—mad.
