من أين يكتسب المحامد لاهِ

من أين يكتسب المحامد لاهِ

أم كيف يرقى للعلي بالله

أم كيف يرقى للعلي بالله

From where can an idle man earn praise?

From where does praise for the Most High derive?

Or how, by God, can he rise to the heights?

Or how can one ascend to the Exalted through God?

وعلامَ يلهو والثناء على الفتى

وعلامَ يلهو والثناء على الفتى

لاينتهي وعناؤه متناهي

لاينتهي وعناؤه متناهي

And why does he idle, when praise for a young man

And why play when praise for the young man

never ends, while his toil is finite?

Is endless, yet his toil remains finite?
