من آل محمودَ بدرٌ في الثَرى غربا

هنا وكوكب مجدٍ بالمنونِ خبا

هنا وكوكب مجدٍ بالمنونِ خبا

A full moon from Mahmoud’s house has set in the earth

Here, and a star of glory has been extinguished by death.

هنا قضى ابن عليّ فالذكاء قضى

هنا قضى ابن عليّ فالذكاء قضى

والفضلُ أودى ولم تقضِ العلا أربا

والفضلُ أودى ولم تقضِ العلا أربا

Here Ali’s son died, and so intelligence died,

And virtue perished, while greatness had not fulfilled its wish.

والرمس أمست بقاع الأرضِ تحسده

والرمس أمست بقاع الأرضِ تحسده

لدركه في المعالي كلَّ ما طلبا

لدركه في المعالي كلَّ ما طلبا

And the earth’s regions have come to envy the grave,

For it attained, in glory, all that it sought.

ومصدر الصدق في الفردوسِ أرخه

ومصدر الصدق في الفردوسِ أرخه

ضريح أحمدَ يحوي العلم والأدبا

ضريح أحمدَ يحوي العلم والأدبا

And the fount of truth in Paradise recorded its date:

“Ahmad’s tomb holds learning and letters.”
