أَلا أَبلِغا وَهمَ بنَ عَمروٍ رِسالَةً

أَلا أَبلِغا وَهمَ بنَ عَمروٍ رِسالَةً

فَإِنَّكَ أَنتَ المَرءُ بِالخَيرِ أَجدَرُ

فَإِنَّكَ أَنتَ المَرءُ بِالخَيرِ أَجدَرُ

Listen, you two: convey a message to Wahm son of Amr.

Deliver, O Wahm, unto the sons of 'Amr a message,

For you are the man most deserving of kindness.

For thou art, in truth, the man of nobleness most fit.

رَأَيتُكَ أَدنى الناسِ مِنّا قَرابَةً

رَأَيتُكَ أَدنى الناسِ مِنّا قَرابَةً

وَغَيرَكَ مِنهُم كُنتُ أَحبو وَأَنصُرُ

وَغَيرَكَ مِنهُم كُنتُ أَحبو وَأَنصُرُ

I found you the closest of all people to us in kinship,

Though not the nearest unto us in ties of blood,

Yet I used to give gifts to others among them and support them.

Yet more than others I did love and succor thee.

إِذا ما أَتى يَومٌ يُفَرِّقُ بَينَنا

إِذا ما أَتى يَومٌ يُفَرِّقُ بَينَنا

بِمَوتٍ فَكُن يا وَهمُ ذو يَتَأَخَّرُ

بِمَوتٍ فَكُن يا وَهمُ ذو يَتَأَخَّرُ

If ever a day comes that parts us

If comes a day that death shall part us twain,

Through death, then be, O Wahm, the one who remains behind.

Then, O Wahm, be thou the last that lingers here!
