إِذاif كُنتَyou are ذاpossessing مالٍwealth كَثيرٍabundant مُوَجَّهاhonored
إِذا كُنتَ ذا مالٍ كَثيرٍ مُوَجَّها
تُدَقُّare ground لَكَfor you الأَفحاءُthe spices فيin كُلِّevery مَنزِلِdwelling
تُدَقُّ لَكَ الأَفحاءُ في كُلِّ مَنزِلِ
If you are a man of great wealth, held in honor,
If you possess abundant wealth and are held in honor,
spices will be pounded for you at every lodging.
spices are ground for you in every dwelling.
فَإِنَّfor indeed نَزيعَwater drawn الجَفرِthe well يُذهِبُdispels عَيمَتيmy craving for milk
فَإِنَّ نَزيعَ الجَفرِ يُذهِبُ عَيمَتي
وَأَبلُغُand I get by بِالمَخشوبِon roughly prepared food غَيرِnot المُفَلفَلِpepper-seasoned
وَأَبلُغُ بِالمَخشوبِ غَيرِ المُفَلفَلِ
But water drawn from the well dispels my craving for milk,
For water drawn from the well dispels my craving for milk,
and coarse, unpeppered fare is enough for me.
and I get by on roughly prepared food, without pepper.
