وَلا أُزَرِّفُ ضَيفي إِن تَأَوَّبَني

وَلا أُزَرِّفُ ضَيفي إِن تَأَوَّبَني

وَلا أُداني لَهُ ما لَيسَ بِالداني

وَلا أُداني لَهُ ما لَيسَ بِالداني

And I do not hurry my guest away if he visits me at night.

I do not blame my guest if misfortune visits me,

Nor do I fetch for him what is not close at hand.

Nor do I approach that which is not approachable.

لَهُ المُؤاساةُ عِندي إِن تَأَوَّبَني

لَهُ المُؤاساةُ عِندي إِن تَأَوَّبَني

وَكُلُّ زادٍ وَإِن أَبقَيتُهُ فاني

وَكُلُّ زادٍ وَإِن أَبقَيتُهُ فاني

He shall share what I have if he visits me at night.

He has my sympathy if misfortune visits me,

And all food, even if I keep it, will perish.

And all provisions, though I leave them, vanish.
