عَضَضتَ بِأَيرٍ مِن أَبيكَ وَخالِهِ

عَضَضتَ بِأَيرٍ مِن أَبيكَ وَخالِهِ

وَعَضَّت بَنو النَجّارِ بِالسُكَّرِ الرَطبِ

وَعَضَّت بَنو النَجّارِ بِالسُكَّرِ الرَطبِ

You bit a penis from your father and his maternal uncle,

You bit on a cock from your father and his maternal uncle,

while Banū al-Najjār bit into moist sugar.

while the sons of al-Najjar bit into moist sugar.

فَلَستَ بِخَيرٍ مِن أَبيكَ وَخالِهِ

فَلَستَ بِخَيرٍ مِن أَبيكَ وَخالِهِ

وَلَستَ بِخَيرٍ مِن مُعاظَلَةِ الكَلبِ

وَلَستَ بِخَيرٍ مِن مُعاظَلَةِ الكَلبِ

You are no better than your father and his maternal uncle,

So you are no better than your father and his maternal uncle,

nor better than dogs locked together in mating.

and you are no better than a dog's copulation.

وَلَستَ بِذي دينٍ وَلا ذي أَمانَةٍ

وَلَستَ بِذي دينٍ وَلا ذي أَمانَةٍ

وَلَستَ بِحُرٍّ مِن لُؤَيٍّ وَلا كَعبِ

وَلَستَ بِحُرٍّ مِن لُؤَيٍّ وَلا كَعبِ

You are neither a man of religion nor a man of trustworthiness,

And you possess neither faith nor trustworthiness,

nor a freeborn man descended from Luʾayy or Kaʿb.

and you are no freeborn man of Lu'ayy or Ka'b.

وَلَكِن هَجينٌ ذو دَناةٍ لِمُقرِفٍ

وَلَكِن هَجينٌ ذو دَناةٍ لِمُقرِفٍ

مُجاجَةَ مِلحٍ غَيرِ صافٍ وَلا عَذبِ

مُجاجَةَ مِلحٍ غَيرِ صافٍ وَلا عَذبِ

But you are base-born, a man of baseness and ignoble stock—

But you are a base half-breed, born of a lowborn man,

a gob of brine, neither clear nor sweet.

salty spittle, neither clear nor sweet.
