أَلينُ إِذا لانَ العَشيرُ فَإِن تَكُن

أَلينُ إِذا لانَ العَشيرُ فَإِن تَكُن

بِهِ جِنَّةٌ فَجِنَّتي أَنا أَقدَمُ

بِهِ جِنَّةٌ فَجِنَّتي أَنا أَقدَمُ

I am gentle when my companion is gentle; but if there is

When the clan is weakened, if there is blame

madness in him, then my own madness is older.

And if blame there be, mine shall I bear

قَريبٌ بَعيدٌ خَيرُهُ قَبلَ شَرِّهِ

قَريبٌ بَعيدٌ خَيرُهُ قَبلَ شَرِّهِ

إِذا طَلَبوا مِنّي الغَرامَةَ أَغرَمُ

إِذا طَلَبوا مِنّي الغَرامَةَ أَغرَمُ

Near yet distant, his good comes before his harm.

Whether near or far, his good before his ill

When they demand compensation from me, I pay.

Should they ask bloodwit of me, pay I will

إِذا ماتَ مِنّا سَيِّدٌ سادَ مِثلُهُ

إِذا ماتَ مِنّا سَيِّدٌ سادَ مِثلُهُ

رَحيبُ الذِراعِ بِالسِيادَةِ خِضرِمُ

رَحيبُ الذِراعِ بِالسِيادَةِ خِضرِمُ

When a chief among us dies, his equal becomes chief—

If a lord of ours dies, the like of him shall lead

broad of arm, bountiful in leadership.

An ample-armed man in lordship thrives still

يُجيبُ إِلى الجُلّى وَيَحتَضِرُ الوَغى

يُجيبُ إِلى الجُلّى وَيَحتَضِرُ الوَغى

أَخو ثِقَةٍ يَزدادُ خَيراً وَيُكرَمُ

أَخو ثِقَةٍ يَزدادُ خَيراً وَيُكرَمُ

He responds to grave crises and is present in battle,

Answering to glory's call, foray laid by

a trustworthy man who grows in goodness and is honored.

A brother trusty, graced with good, held dear
