He dwelt in Mecca for ten-odd years,

Exhorting, hoping to find a supportive friend.

And he presented himself among those at the pilgrimage gatherings,

But found no one to shelter him, nor anyone to invite him.

Then, when he came to us and his wanderings came to rest,

He became joyful and content in Taybah.

And he no longer feared the enmity of an oppressor

Close at hand, nor feared any aggressor among the people.

We offered him wealth from the greater part of our possessions,

And our lives in battle, and mutual support.

We fight whoever among all people is hostile to him,

One and all, even if he were a beloved, loyal friend.

And we know that God alone is Lord,

And that God's Book has become a guide.
