لَعَمرُكَ إِنَّ إِلَّكَ مِن قُرَيشٍ

لَعَمرُكَ إِنَّ إِلَّكَ مِن قُرَيشٍ

كَإِلِّ السَقبِ مِن رَألِ النَعامِ

كَإِلِّ السَقبِ مِن رَألِ النَعامِ

By your life, indeed your kinship with Quraysh

By your life! Though you are of Quraysh,

Is like a camel calf's kinship with an ostrich chick.

You are to them as a rope is to a camel's nose.

فَإِنَّكَ إِذ تَمُتُّ إِلى قُرَيشٍ

فَإِنَّكَ إِذ تَمُتُّ إِلى قُرَيشٍ

كَذاتِ البَوِّ جائِلَةِ المَرامِ

كَذاتِ البَوِّ جائِلَةِ المَرامِ

For when you claim kinship with Quraysh,

So though you cling to Quraysh earnestly,

You are like a she-camel with a dummy calf, wandering in her search.

You are to them as a pestering creditor.

وَأَنتَ مُنَوَّطٌ بِهِمِ هَجينٌ

وَأَنتَ مُنَوَّطٌ بِهِمِ هَجينٌ

كَما نيطَ السَرائِحُ بِالخِدامِ

كَما نيطَ السَرائِحُ بِالخِدامِ

And you are a half-breed, fastened to them,

You are tied to them loosely,

As leather straps are fastened to ankle-bands.

Like buckets to the leather draw-wells.

فَلا تَفخَر بِقَومٍ لَستَ مِنهُم

فَلا تَفخَر بِقَومٍ لَستَ مِنهُم

وَلا تَكُ كَاللِئامِ بَني هِشامِ

وَلا تَكُ كَاللِئامِ بَني هِشامِ

So do not boast of a people you do not belong to,

So do not boast of a people you are not from,

And do not be like the ignoble sons of Hisham.

Nor be like the rogues from Bani Hisham.

أَضَلّوا جَدَّهُم مِن آلِ شَجعٍ

أَضَلّوا جَدَّهُم مِن آلِ شَجعٍ

وَنيطوا مِن قُرَيشٍ بِاللِئامِ

وَنيطوا مِن قُرَيشٍ بِاللِئامِ

They lost track of their forefather from the house of Shajʿ,

They led their grandfather astray from Shaja'’s clan,

And were attached to the ignoble men of Quraysh.

And they were tied to Quraysh through wickedness.
