فاللهُfor God ربِّيmy Lord خيرُthe best منتقمِavenger
You go on lampooning me and insulting me;
You still insult and revile me
For God, my Lord, is the best avenger.
Yet Allah is my Lord, the best avenger
فاذكرso remember وقوفَكَyour standing للحسابِfor the reckoning غدًاtomorrow
متفردًاalone منapart from عصبةٍa clan ودمِand blood-kin
So remember your standing for reckoning tomorrow,
Remember you will stand alone for judgement tomorrow
Alone, apart from clan and blood-kin.
Detached from allies and supporters

I will not answer, despite my ability;
Though able, I will not retaliate
But I complain to the Judge.
But I complain to the Judge

And to Him I raise my hand in supplication,
And lift my hands to Him in prayer
Beneath the sky, in a cloud of darkness.
Under the dark, starry sky

Whatever pleases God, I do;
I do what pleases Allah
And toward Him my shin is turned by high resolve.
And to Him I devote my ambitions

And evil I repel; I do not follow it.
I shun evil, I do not pursue it
The rancor of the vengeful has seethed with it.
Though the spiteful covet it

And goodness is like sunlight; by it is illumined
Goodness is radiant, enlightening
Whoever stands before the Most Merciful, close at hand.
Those who stand for the Merciful

So keep away from me: I am a man
Know that I am a man
Gracious in character, firmly rooted in nobility,
Of gentle temper yet generous spirit

From a people for whom God ordained
Of a people Allah granted
Lofty honor, not brought crashing down.
Lofty, eminent honour

Were it not for the reproach that would pursue me,
Were it not for fear of blame
I would unleash it as war upon the nations.
I would wage war on nations

Tell the youth I have for them
I have a reproach that will not end.

And is this how you were taught to behave,
Is this how you were taught
By your Lord's faith, toward human souls?
The manners of your Lord’s religion?

May the hands perish of a man whom
Cursed be the hand of a man
Grudges drive toward me, still unweaned from them.
Whose grudges against me are unabated

I taught him knowledge to benefit him;
I taught him knowledge to benefit him
Yet behold, the reward is abuse—so seek judgment!
Yet insults are his reward, let him be judged

Indeed, though my peaceful forbearance has lasted long,
Though I am forbearing
It must reveal a fierce sorrow.
My sorrow must find voice

My fierce resolve take the lead except under constraint.
Been hasty, unconsidered in conduct

For many a time I have fought a fool,
Often have I fought the foolish
Both eye-sockets ablaze, like one enraged,
With fiery eyes like embers

Glowering at me with serpentine
Between the ribs a cold one's blaze.

I bound him to disgrace that clung to him forever,
I left him in eternal disgrace
And thus I requite every wrongdoer.
Thus I treat all transgressors
