I have called upon You, my Lord; answer one who hopes in You,

Who comes to You with a sorrowful heart, ever asking.

I have asked You for forgiveness, pardon, and mercy,

And for a light that, when it calls the limbs, they obey.

Whoever remains upright for God will attain His bounty,

And the Lord of humankind will help him in every place.

    فكم في الرَّزايا مِن مُـسِرٍّ ومُعلِنِ

    So hasten to the Merciful One, remorseful and repentant;

How many in adversity conceal their pain, and how many reveal it.

The Lord of humankind will lift every affliction,

And every believer will enjoy His kindness.

The heart prayed and pleaded insistently; accept its prayer,

And strengthen it with faith, that it may be content and prosper.

Every hope placed in anyone but You has passed away,

Its cord of connection severed, signaling its end.

So I answer Your call, Lord of humankind, from every direction,

And ask pardon when sleep deserts our eyes.

He is the one we hope in, the true refuge, the One

To whom every matter is returned from every quarter.

    He generously pardoned great sins,

Too many for the heart to count or tongues to tell.

Whoever one day gives his affairs over to delay

Will be overtaken by the pangs of misery and will grieve.

O giver of kindness to every hopeful soul,

While some pray in the darkness and others say ‘Amen,’

    وليسوا سواءً مِن مُسِـيءٍ ومُحسِنِ

    We prayed, and He granted each soul what it asked for;

Yet the wrongdoer and the doer of good are not alike.

Pardon has not ceased, nor has sin ceased,

Nor does the soul restrain us, nor is the heart attentive.

    فلا عَجِلٌ مِن بعدُ راضٍ ولا الوَنِي

    Everything distant will one day arrive and pass away;

Afterward, neither the hasty nor the sluggish is content.

A person does not recover from his stumbles

If he roams in sin through every place of safety.
