قالوا نَجاشِيُّ البُحَيرَةِ نالَهُ

قالوا نَجاشِيُّ البُحَيرَةِ نالَهُ

كَرَمُ العَزيزِ بِرُتبَةِ المُتَمايِزِ

كَرَمُ العَزيزِ بِرُتبَةِ المُتَمايِزِ

They said: the Negus of al-Buhayra has been graced

They said Najashi of Abyssinia attained it,

By the Mighty One’s generosity, with the rank of the Distinguished.

The generosity of the Honorable with the rank of the Excellent.

فَأَحبَبتَهُم رَتبَ العَلاءِ قَليلَةً

فَأَحبَبتَهُم رَتبَ العَلاءِ قَليلَةً

في حَقٍّ مَن لِلفَضلِ أَفضَلَ حائِزِ

في حَقٍّ مَن لِلفَضلِ أَفضَلَ حائِزِ

So you loved them; ranks of eminence are scant

So you loved the ranks of the high ones little,

For one who is the foremost possessor of merit.

In truth for one who for merit is more excellent in gaining.

لَكِنَّها وافَت تُبَشِّرُ بِالَّتي

لَكِنَّها وافَت تُبَشِّرُ بِالَّتي

تَتلو لَها القَريبَ الناجِزِ

تَتلو لَها القَريبَ الناجِزِ

But it came, bringing glad tidings of the one

But it reached, giving good news of that

That follows it, near at hand and fulfilled [wording unclear].

Which follows it - the near, successful.

فَاِبشِر وَسَرابا الحُسَينِ وَسَدُّ وَسِرُّ

فَاِبشِر وَسَرابا الحُسَينِ وَسَدُّ وَسِرُّ

نَحوَ المَعالي في الطَريقِ الفائِزِ

نَحوَ المَعالي في الطَريقِ الفائِزِ

So rejoice—and a mirage, al-Husayn, and a barrier, and a secret [wording unclear]—

So receive good news, mirage of Hussein, obstructer and secret

Toward lofty heights, along the path of success.

Toward the heights on the path, the winner.
