Radiant of countenance, possessed of splendor,

The soul’s desire—yet who can bring her to me?

Glory to Him who fashioned her form so wondrously!

As though she, with the earring in her ear,

Were the full moon of night, paired with Jupiter.

And since her brow grew clear and radiant,

And her glance has risen to challenge reason,

And the mole’s speckling upon her cheek

Has inscribed beauty upon her face—

O eyes of humankind, stop and behold!
