One day I gave glad tidings of a gift’s fulfillment,

From a gentleman whose standing among people had risen.

Then she waited for good fortune that I might gain,

And the breast was gladdened, and wonder stretched out a hand.

A day’s moon, and two days—and no news

Comes, nor has any trace of what is sought appeared.

I seek God’s forgiveness—what does their saying mean:

“Glad tidings, for good fortune has fulfilled what it promised!”
