    O you who, through long estrangement, have become my betrayer,

    Until even the reproacher pitied me and came to excuse me.

    بِاللَهِ ضَع قَدَمَيكَ فَوقَ مَحاجِري

    Do you think such coyness will turn my eyes away?

    By God, place both your feet upon my eye sockets;

    Indeed, I have contented myself with that much union.

    And if I consent—and O joy of my fortune!—

    To a visit that quenches the blaze of my passion,

    Then talk with me, O heart's desire,

    And prolong your conversation with me, for my ears

    Love your speech just as they love you.
