أَلاAh! فيin سَبيلِthe cause of اللَهِGod ماwhat حَلَّbefell بيme مِنكَfrom you
وَأَنتَand you لَفيindeed in حِلٍّabsolution بِماfor whatever شِئتَyou wish مِنof فَتكِdeadly violence
Ah, for God's sake, all that has befallen me at your hands!
Alas! For the cause of God, what has befallen me from you
And you are absolved of whatever deadly violence you choose.
While you are at ease with whatever you wish of separation
وَماand not الصَعبُthe hardship إِلّاexcept حُبُّكَyour love الصَدُّrejection وَالجَفاand coldness
وَصَبَّرَكَand your patience عَنّيapart from me حَيثُwhere لاno صَبرَpatience ليfor me عَنكِapart from you
And the only hardship is your love of rejection and coldness,
And nothing is difficult except your love, your disdain and aloofness
And your patience apart from me, while I have none apart from you.
And your patience with me, when I have no patience without you
وَتَرَكَكَand your abandoning جِسميmy body بَعدَafter مُهجَتيmy lifeblood
حَرامٌforbidden إِذاif ماindeed كُنتُI am عَبدَكَyour slave بِالمُلكِby ownership
And your abandoning my body after my lifeblood
And my body has left me after my torment
Is forbidden, if I am indeed your slave by right of ownership.
It is forbidden, if I was your servant with the kingdom
وَمِنand from سوءِthe ill حَظّيof my fortune تَركُهُleaving it بَعدَafter ذاthis القَلاaversion
ضَئيلاًwasted فَهَلّاso why not كانَwas مِنfrom قَبلُbefore ذاthis التُركِabandonment
And, to my ill fortune, it is left after this aversion,
And from my misfortune, it left me after this emaciation
Wasted—why did this abandonment not come sooner?
If only it had left before this abandonment
فَهَلso is there حاكَمَa judge فيin الحُبُّlove يَحكُمُjudges بَينَناbetween us
إِذاwhen ماسَswayed gracefully مِنكَof yours القَدُّthe figure لَمnot يَرُمbe assailed بِالشَكِّby doubt
Is there, then, a judge in love to judge between us,
Is there an arbiter in love to judge between us
Who, when your figure sways, will not be assailed by doubt?
When old age takes its toll, he does not doubt
يَقومُstands لَهُfor him دَمعيmy tears بِإِثباتِby proving ماwhat جَرىoccurred
وَيَأخُذُand he obtains ليfor me حَقّيmy due وَيُنصِفَنيand does me justice مِنكِagainst you
My tears would stand before him to prove what occurred,
My tears testify what has happened
And he would obtain my due for me and do me justice against you.
And take my right for me and do me justice from you
