كريمٌ بصيرٌ بأمرش الزّمانِ
فضائلُهُhis virtues حُجَّةٌa proof شائعهwidely known
فضائلُهُ حُجَّةٌ شائعه
Generous, discerning in the affairs of time;
his virtues are a widely known proof.
يَروحُhe goes forth بِعِرضٍwith honor مَصونٍpreserved لهُfor him
يَروحُ بِعِرضٍ مَصونٍ لهُ
ولكنَّbut أَموالَهُhis wealth ضائعَهlost
ولكنَّ أَموالَهُ ضائعَه
He goes forth with his honor preserved,
yet his wealth is lost.
عزائمُهُhis resolves ومآثيرُهُand his noble deeds
عزائمُهُ ومآثيرُهُ
لآجالof the lifespans of أَعدائهِhis enemies قاطعَهcutting short
لآجال أَعدائهِ قاطعَه
His resolves and his noble deeds
cut short his enemies’ lifespans.
ولوand if حاربتهُwaged war against him نجومُthe stars of السَّماءِheaven
ولو حاربتهُ نجومُ السَّماءِ
لمَاwould not لبثتremain ساعةًan hour طالعَهrisen
لمَا لبثت ساعةً طالعَه
And were the stars of heaven to wage war against him,
they would not remain aloft an hour.
ولوand if طلبتsought يَدُهُhis hand مَسَّهاto touch them
ولو طلبت يَدُهُ مَسَّها
لدانتthey would submit لهُto him وَدَنتand draw near طائعَهobediently
لدانت لهُ وَدَنت طائعَه
And were his hand to seek to touch them,
they would submit to him and draw near obediently.
فلاso may ... never زالَhe cease to be فيin نعمةٍa blessing لاnot تَزولُpassing away
فلا زالَ في نعمةٍ لا تَزولُ
لأعراضهِof his honors كلّهاall of them جامعَهencompassing
لأعراضهِ كلّها جامعَه
May he ever dwell in a blessing that never fades,
encompassing every aspect of his honor.
