سَلْ عن الصَّارمِ ابن يَحْيى

راحلاً نَحْوَنا من النَّهْرَوانِ

راحلاً نَحْوَنا من النَّهْرَوانِ

Ask after al-Sarim ibn Yahya,

Ask about the sword of the son of Yahya

journeying toward us from Nahrawan,

Traveling towards us from Nahrawan

ليَصُونَ المُدام سُهْداً ويَغْشى

ليَصُونَ المُدام سُهْداً ويَغْشى

الهَجْرَ بين الأَصْواتِ والعيدانِ

الهَجْرَ بين الأَصْواتِ والعيدانِ

to guard the wine in sleepless vigil and veil

To protect the wine-skin carefully and pour

estrangement amid voices and lutes.

Separation between the voices and the stakes

فَأْتِنا نَصْطبحْ ونلتذَّ جميعاً

فَأْتِنا نَصْطبحْ ونلتذَّ جميعاً

لثلاثٍ بقينَ من شَعْبانِ

لثلاثٍ بقينَ من شَعْبانِ

So come to us: let us drink morning wine and take pleasure together,

So come to us, we will all enjoy morning

with three nights of Sha‘ban remaining.

For three days that remain of Sha'ban
