لَقَدindeed شَهِدَتhas testified حَقّاًtruly سَدوسٌSadus بِأَنَّنيto the fact that I
أَناI الفارِسُthe horseman المُعتادُaccustomed to قَطعَsevering الحَناجِرِthe throats
Indeed, Sadus has truly testified that I
Indeed Sadus has truly witnessed that I
am the horseman accustomed to severing throats.
Am the skilled horseman who severs throats
تَلَقَيتُI met نَصراًNasr وَالمُعَمَّرَand al-Muʿammar بَعدَهُafter him
وَأَردَيتُهُand I slew him كَرهاًby force بِرَغمِin defiance of المَناخِرِthe nostrils
I met Nasr, and al-Muʿammar after him,
I have attained victory, and after the aged one
and slew him by force, humbling proud nostrils.
I have subdued him unwillingly despite tusks
وَسَوفَand will يَرىsee مَنصورُMansur منّاfrom us عَجائِباًwonders
يُعَدِّدُrepeatedly recounts ذِكريmention of me فيin جَميعِall المَحاضِرِthe gatherings
And Mansur will see wonders from us,
And Mansur will see from us wonders
speaking of me again and again in every gathering.
My mention enumerated in all gatherings
وَلاand no بُدَّescape مِنfrom غِبرٍrancor يُتابِعُfollows غِبرَهُits rancor
وَيَتبَعُand follows أَولاداًsons وَشيكاًsoon بِآخَرِwith another
And there must be rancor following rancor,
And there must be dust that pursues dust
and soon adding another to the sons.
And is followed by sons and soon by others
ظَنَنتُمyou thought سَدوسٌSadus إِذwhen قَتَلتُمyou killed والِديmy father
وَتِسعَةَand nine إِخوانيof my brothers أُمَدُّI am reinforced بِعاشِرِby a tenth
You thought, Sadus, when you killed my father
You thought, O Sadus, when you killed my father
and nine of my brothers, that I would be reinforced by a tenth.
And nine brothers, I can be stopped by a tenth
فَهَلّاthen why did you not عَلِمتُمyou knew أنَّthat حَوليaround me فِتيَةًyoung men
تَصولُcharge fiercely عَلىagainst بيضِgleaming blades السُيوفِof the swords البَواتِرِthe cleaving ones
Then why did you not know that around me are young men
Why did you not know that around me are young men
who charge against the gleaming, cleaving swords?
Who charge with the sharp blades of swords
