وقالوا من نكَحْتَ فقلتُ خيراً

عجوزاً من عُرَيْنةَ ذاتَ مالِ

And they said, “Whom did you marry?” I said, “A good one—

an old woman from ʿUraynah, possessed of wealth.”

نكحتُ عُجَيِّزاً ونقَدْتُ ألفاً

كذاكَ البيْعُ مرتَخَصٌ وغالِ

كذاكَ البيْعُ مرتَخَصٌ وغالِ

I married a little old woman and paid a thousand in cash.

I married an old woman and gained a thousand,

Such is the bargain: cheap and dear.

Thus is the sale undervalued yet expensive.
