وَمغارِبٌ وَرَوامِسٌ وَشُروقُ
A fierce wind has effaced the dwellings at al-Salil,
Homes shrouded in darkness at dusk
And westerlies, burying winds, and easterlies,
Sunsets, sunrises, daybreaks too
وَهِطالُand downpours أَشتيةٍof winters يَعودُreturns عَليهماupon them both
وَهِطالُ أَشتيةٍ يَعودُ عَليهما

هَبواتُها وَعجاجُها المزعوقُ
And winter downpours; upon them both return
Torrents of winter rain pounding down
Their dust clouds and their wind-whipped dust.
Gales blustering, wild winds blowing

Today the staff is wrested from its master,
Today the staff is wrenched from its lord's hand
And the eloquent speaker chews the fold of his tongue.
And the glib tongue falls silent, articulate no more
